This is the headline on a report from the Gallup Organization (the people who do polling concerning religion, as reported in the Christian Chronicle). The report stated that "a 1999 poll revealed that only 10 percent of American church members are active in any personal ministry and that 50 percent have no interest in serving in such a capacity." They further reported that "churches that are growing and vital have succeeded in turning an audience into an army; spectators into participants."
If that sounds familiar it should come as no surprise! Paul says (Eph. 4:12) that God's people are to be prepared for works of service "so that the body of Christ may be built up". Church growth depends on several elements, but one of the most important ingredients, if not the most important, is whether or not God's people are serving. The church cannot grow if only a few are serving.
Please fill out the new involvement form and turn it in. If you didn't get one last Sunday, please get one and fill it out.
