Watching Over Us

I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from?   My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.   He will not let your foot slip - he who watches over you will not slumber.   Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.   The Lord watches over you - the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day nor the moon by night.   The Lord will keep you from all harm - he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

-- Psalm 121 (NIV)

It is important for Christians to remember who is in charge of their lives.   Men of God from all generations have expressed their undying devotion to God and their unswerving trust that He is the one who helps in times of need.   We must never forget that the Lord is with us!

The Psalmist informs us that the Lord:

Þ Keeps our feet from slipping.
Þ Guards us when we sleep.
Þ Protects us day and night.
Þ Keeps us from all harm.

With such confidence, there is never an excuse for singing the blues.   We should be the most confident of all people.   If people in the Old Testament could have such faith, what about us?

Paul wrote, "If God is for us, who can be against us?...in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us," (Rom 8:31,37).   He also wrote, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid," (Heb 13:6).

May we ever realize that regardless of the circumstances, the Lord is our helper.   Solutions to our problems do not lie in our own wisdom and power, but rather in the strength of the One who sustains us.   May He increase our faith!
