Can you feel it? I do! There is an air of excitement being generated by our deacons as they launch their areas of responsitility. Just look around and you will see our deacons, new and old, talking with members of the congregation about their areas of responsibility. It fills my soul with a sense of anticipation for good things to come.
Our dreams can come true because our God is able help us do even more than we can think or ask, Eph 3:20-21. However, it will take some time for us to see our new programs get off the ground. We need to pray often, work hard, and we need to be patient.
Real growth is a slow process. It reminds me of a program I once saw on television. It was a strong man contest. Several huge, highly muscled men were attempting to pull a heavy semi-truck from a standstill to the end of a track. The man with the fastest time won. Each man was harnessed to the truck one at a time. Each contestant would strain and pull and slowly move the vehicle down the track. At first, it seemed that the truck just couldn't be moved. However, before long it began to inch its way down the track. The more the men worked, the faster the truck moved on its way to the finish line. For some of the men, the semi-truck was moving at a pretty good pace by the time they ended their race.
That is how I see our current situation. We are harnessed in and we are tugging with all our might. The semi-truck (our work for the Lord) is just now beginning to move. Don't despair, it will pick up speed! That is because God is our helper.
This Sunday night our annual budget proposal will be presented to the church. You will definitely want to be here for this presentation. If you have any budget concerns, this is your chance to let our elders know. Our fiscal year begins July 1, 1999.
Umph! Pull harder! Ah! Now you're cooking! Good job! Just keep on keeping on!
