I learned something recently in reading
from the Greek. When Jesus told us to come to Him, and give Him our burdens because His are
light, He promised us something else. He said he would give us rest -- at least that's the way our
Bible versions put it. But in the Greek, it actually says that He will "rest" us. Instead of His peace
and rest being like a commodity or substance that He dispenses; it's more accurate to say that He
performs a direct action on our hurting souls. He rests us.
I don't know about you, but as a woman I am often reluctant to accept rest if it's offered to
me. How comforting it is to me -- and I hope it will be to you -- to know that if we just approach
our gracious Savior, He will take over and make us rest. He will rest you.
My daughter, Celeste, wrote a poem about this new understanding of how He rests us. I
pray it will bless you as much as it has blessed the hundreds of women who have heard it.

You Rest Me

I no longer have to strain my eyes to see You,
For You have sought me out.
You rest me.
My sore legs are gently cupped by Your hand
And my tired head now lies in the crux of Your arm against You
You rest me
My spirit knows Your peaceful presence --
Because You are,
I am.
You rest me.
And, Oh, the freedom You give me from myself
Is sweeter than any patriot's hymn--
More valuable than victory at the largest battle.
My Lord, my God --
You
Rest
Me.
