Sensing God's Love

Woman at the Well

Wateringcan

"God loves you."

I ponder such love. God loves me? Me? One of the billions of souls created throughout time? How could it be that God, the One who created everything in a word, would notice one such as me? Notice, and love, one single small individual? This same God who created the heavens, the earth, the waters, the land, the trees, who breathed life into every living creature…isn't He too big? Then it dawned on me. That's exactly it. God created all of this…for me, for each of us as individuals, because He loves us.

Look about. He painted the expanse of the sky, the deepest of blue that penetrates your soul. He gently floated clouds in the sky like lofty white puffs of fresh cotton. They have depth and dimension. He made springtime colors of greens, reds, purples, yellows, all borne on the petals of the flowers. Yes, the flowers, that smell of the very fragrance of Christ Himself. Scents of the rose, a daisy, honeysuckle, gardenias fill my senses. I reach out and I touch one with my fingertip. I feel it. It is soft, downy, frail. He created all things with texture. Pleasing textures, smoothness, silken, rough, seemingly tough and durable textures. Qualities I can sense, oddly, through my hand.

I understand now. My heart leaps beyond me! This is God's love just for me! Don't you see? Creation is no accident! He designed all of these things. He brought all of this beauty into existence, with one thing in mind. My dear Father patterned all of this for…me!!! He formed me from dust, created into an image of Him. He carefully built me with all of His creation in mind. He lovingly perfected me with receptors, receivers, to which He planned to abundantly present His pleasure. I am, indeed, fearfully and wonderfully made. He carved eyes, orbs fashioned to acquire and process the variations of light that He radiates for our pleasure. Collectors built to appreciate all of the colors He painted upon His world, a world created for me! He made noses, of all different shapes and sizes, intricately wired to sense all the subtleties of the gentle aromas He produced to please me. And He gave me fingertips with delicate tactile features that can distinguish the subtleties in so much more of what He created. Why, I can even sense these variations with the soles of my feet!

"Behold, I will create…" my heavenly Father says. I made flavors and created you with a sense of taste. I made warmth and coolness and designed you with a form to distinguish the differences. I created the gentle sound of the rustle of the trees as the wind passes through, such as my Spirit. I orchestrated the songs of nature to delight your spirit. Do you hear the crashing of the waves, the thunder of my Power, the calm of the rain? Your ears, I made, to hear My song.

"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made…" [Romans 1:2].

Does my Abba Father love me?

"I love you with an everlasting love," my Father says to me; and I love Him too.
